Regional Orthopaedic Program Receives Leadership Award
Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre’s Regional Orthopaedic Program is a recipient of a North West Local Health Integration (LHIN) Leadership Award.
The Regional Orthopaedic Program was nominated for its exceptional approach to collaboration and partnership as well as its innovative model of health care delivery achieved through regional integration and advanced technology.
At the heart of the Regional Orthopedic Program is a digital health system designed with a centralized referral system that will soon be able to connect primary care providers and other referrers with the Regional Orthopedic Program through one point of access. Program benefits include improved access to specialty care, closer-to-home care for patients, reduced wait times, reduced costs to the system and patient, and improved health outcomes.
Our Hospital worked in partnership with the NW LHIN, as well as Dryden Regional Health Care, Riverside Health Care in Fort Frances, and Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora in respect to this project. One of the main goals is improved access and a standardized level of care for patients throughout the region.
“The Regional Orthopaedic Program represents years of relationship building and a change away from the culture of models of patient care that operate separately, or in silos as it were. Recognizing our Regional Orthopaedic Program with this Leadership award validates all of the stakeholders who partnered and collaborated in making the selfless critical changes in thinking to yield a truly integrated Regional program geared to making patients first,” said Caroline Fanti, Director of the Regional Orthopaedic Program. “This award also represents a navigation beacon for all other medical sub specialities to follow. Our Hospital is honoured to be recognized for its leadership in pioneering these changes.”
The annual LHIN Leadership Awards acknowledge outstanding transformation, partnerships and leadership excellence across Northwestern Ontario’s health care system.
