- Purchase oral Tylenol or Ibuprofen for pain and oral Gravol for nausea.
- No alcohol for 24 hours before and after surgery.
- Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. This includes gum,
candy, water, etc.
You must be accompanied home after surgery. You cannot travel alone.
Arrange for someone who will be available at the time of your discharge to
drive you home.
Arrange accommodation for yourself and a companion to stay in Thunder Bay overnight after surgery.
- Bath or shower.
- Do not use perfumes, lotions, powder or deodorant.
- Remove all body piercings, jewellery, make-up, nail polish and contact
lenses.
- Do not smoke the morning of surgery.
Do not take any diabetic medication unless instructed otherwise
by physician. Take all other prescribed medications with a sip of water, unless
you have been instructed otherwise.

- X-rays
- Diabetic medications & equipment
- Inhalers, Nitro
- Slings, crutches, bra, binder that may be required
- Leave purses & all other valuables at home
- Please ensure that your driver is available at discharge time. A nurse from
Surgical Day Care will call this person when you are ready to leave.
- Upon their arrival at the “Main Entrance” of the hospital, your
driver should inform the Surgical Day Care Department by:
Using their cell phone from their vehicle to call (807) 684-6186.
or by
Entering the hospital and asking that the person at the “Information Desk”
to notify the Surgical Day Care Department.
- You will be brought down to the main entrance to meet your ride.
