ICR Discoveries Click to listen to this page using ReadPlease ICR Discoveries is a 50,000-plus square foot health research institute committed to collaborative, innovative research in Northwestern Ontario. It is designed to be one common, functional facility that will foster synergies among researchers and scientists, including industry researchers, enabling them to learn from one another, share ideas and findings, and to create one large centre of knowledge with a focus on commercialization.


Located only minutes from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC), Lakehead University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, ICR Discoveries is a hub for research activity in Northwestern Ontario. This facility is owned by TBRHSC and leases space to five individual partners. These include:


Lake Superior Centre for Regenerative Medicine

Genesis Genomics Inc. (GGI)

Molecular Medicine Research Centre (MMRC)

Lakehead University Cardiac Research Lab

Lakehead University Pre-Clinical Research Lab

Wet Lab

 

Regional Cancer Care’s Wet Research Lab is a 4,167 square foot facility located on the third floor of TBRHSC. Research equipment at the lab includes, but is not limited to:

  • Flow Cytometer
     
  • Cryostat
     
  • Beta-Counter
     
  • Fluorescent Microscope
     
  • Fluorescent Micro Plate Reader
     
  • and an Imaging System

 

The research lab also features:


  • Four offices, a conference room, and clerical space
  • A technician/student area
  • A micro study, cold room, hot room, dark room, tissue culture room
  • An equipment room and a wash-up area with a water purification system
