Our very specialized team provides individualized care for mothers and their babies during labour, birth and recovery. Our 7 private birthing rooms provide a relaxing and comfortable environment for labour and birth. Each of our very spacious birthing rooms are equipped with a birthing bed, fetal monitor and infant care unit. All rooms have their own washrooms complete with showers and whirlpool baths.

A range of pain relief options are available, ranging from whirlpool baths, relaxation techniques, massage, positioning, narcotic pain relief, nitrous oxide (laughing gas). A referral to an anesthetist may be necessary; this is determined by your care provider. One on one nursing care is provided in active labour.

Two fully equipped operating rooms are located within the labour and delivery unit for high-risk deliveries, emergency and elective cesarean sections.

Breastfeeding, as recommended by the Canadian Institute of Child Health, Health Canada and the World Health Organization is supported at TBRHSC. Education and support are provided to all parents for their baby feeding method of choice.

The Labour and Delivery private entrance is exclusively for expectant mothers over 20 weeks gestation requiring non-stress testing; assessment of pregnancy; assessment of labour; pre-admission visits for booked Caesarian Sections and booked induction of labour. People wishing to visit the Mother Baby Combined Care unit must enter the hospital from the main entrance and then proceed to the Mother Baby Combined Care unit entrance.
