Receiving
a diagnosis of cancer can be a life-changing experience for
you and your loved ones. The doctors, nurses and staff at
Regional Cancer Care (RCC) are aware of emotions you may feel,
and understand how the experience can be overwhelming for
you. We also realize that knowledge can be both empowering
and comforting, which is why we have outlined the journey
that cancer patients undergo after receiving their diagnosis.
We will detail for you each step of the journey: the first
appointment, treatment options, supportive care and follow-up.
Ultimately, we hope to exceed your expectations, address your
concerns and fears and reassure you that you are not alone
- we are here to support you and are committed to providing
excellence in your cancer care.
We have extensive patient resources for new patients and family
members, including a comprehensive New Patient Information
Package along with videos (VHS or DVD) with information on
treatment, community resources, community supports, and navigating
your way through your patient journey.

There are also New Patient and Family Orientation Sessions,
which you can read about by clicking

We also have a state of the art Oncology Interactive Education
Series, a hands-on computer program that provides easily understood
and extensive information on different types of cancer. We
have three computer stations at the centre where you can sit
and find what you are looking for: in our main reception area
on the top floor, in our radiation reception area, and in
our chemotherapy treatment area.
| Discovering
that you or someone close to you has cancer and needs
treatment is life altering, and coming to the cancer
centre can be a very difficult thing to do. We hope
that reading this material will comfort and reassure
you that by walking through our doors, you will receive
the best treatment and care.
We know there will be challenges and perhaps difficult decisions
to make along the way, and we are committed to being there
for you. Our commitment is to all people in Northwestern Ontario
whose lives are touched by cancer.
