Colorectal Cancer Screening on the Screen for Life Coach
Men and women can book an appointment on the Screen for Life Coach to get a ColonCancerCheck fecal occult blood test (FOBT) kit from a registered nurse. You are eligible for an FOBT kit if you are a man or woman between the ages of 50 and 74 years with no first-degree family history (parent, sibling or child) of colorectal cancer.
Who Can Participate?
Ontario’s colorectal cancer screening program, ColonCancerCheck, recommends that men and women, who are at average risk, should start screening for colorectal cancer at age 50 using a Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) kit. Average risk means that you don’t have any symptoms and you don’t have a first degree family history of colorectal cancer.
In addition to a negative family history, you must also:
- Live in Ontario
- Have no symptoms* of colorectal cancer
- Be between the ages of 50 and 74 years
- Have not had a colonoscopy
*Symptoms could include blood in your stool, abdominal pain, change in bowel habits, and unexplained anemia or weight loss. If you are experiencing these symptoms, talk to your primary care provider about a referral for diagnostic testing.
