Visitation Restrictions in Paediatric/Maternal Child

February 18, 2005

Click to listen to this page using ReadPleaseThunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is currently experiencing an influx of admissions of RSV in our Paediatric service. RSV is a seasonal respiratory illness, typically peaking in the winter months, which may require hospital admission and intensive care.

In the interest of decreasing the chance for further transmission, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is restricting visitors to those over 12 years of age in Paediatrics, Maternal Newborn, Labour and Delivery and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Exceptions will apply in critical situations only. We will evaluate our situation on a daily basis and hope to resume our regular visiting policy as soon as possible.

As always, we ask all members of the public to refrain from visiting if they are feeling unwell, have a fever or cough and cold symptoms. Due to the high-risk environment of a hospital, and even though children under 12 are permitted to visit in other areas, this is routinely discouraged.
