As the TBRHSC Strategic Plan 2010 is implemented,
we have set a course that will soon see Thunder Bay
Regional Health Sciences Centre recognized among the
elite academic health sciences centres of care. Teaching
and research, organizational transformation, regional
service integration, and quality patient care are
the focus of our attention. We are encouraged by our
many recent accomplishments. Our new Molecular Medicine
Research Centre has received overwhelming support
from the Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments
in the provision of millions of dollars. This public
support along with the partnerships formed with Sunnybrook
Health Sciences Centre, Lakehead University, and our
world-leading private sector partner Philips, means
that we are now considered among the top molecular
research centres in the world. Significantly, we have
also developed a partnership with the leading Cardiac
Care unit in Canada, the Ottawa Heart Institute, to
establish our Angioplasty stand-alone suite.
In addition, our affiliation with the Northern Ontario
School of Medicine means that Thunder Bay Regional
Health Sciences Centre, which offers state-of-the-art
equipment, facilitates the training of our own “home-grown”
physicians, which promises to secure care for our
region in the future.
As Chair of the Board of Directors, I want to thank
everyone for their support. Our Board has endorsed
Administration’s direction. We are confident
that Patient Care is our focus. We know that our healthcare
teams have embraced quality care strategies and are
proud to applaud the efforts of our physicians, staff,
volunteers and Foundation staff and volunteers.
Sincerely,
Ingrid Parkes, TBRHSC Board Chair
