Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre has been chosen as the
winner in the first Canadian Hand Hygiene Video Competition.
The S.I.C.K. Team (Special Infection Control Kids) Video won
the grand prize.
The Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) invited healthcare
organizations from across Canada to submit creative videos
made in house that promote and demonstrate effective hand
hygiene. Entrants were judged by CPSI’s Hand Hygiene
Faculty and the grand prize winner was announced during Canada’s
Virtual Forum on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement.
There were 14 submissions to the Competition and entries
came from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and
Quebec.
Hugh MacLeod, CPSI CEO said, “Congratulations to everyone
involved in the production of The S.I.C.K. Team Video –
especially the kids who are showing everyone how important
it is to clean their hands at the four moments of hand hygiene.
This Video is an excellent way to share the message that clean
hands save lives”.
Hilary McIver, Manager, Infection Prevention & Control,
Risk Management & Patient Safety stated, “We are
honoured to win this Award and plan to use the Award credit
to increase our hand washing rates and reduce infections even
more. It was a great way to increase awareness in our facility”.
Andrée Robichaud, President and CEO said, “This
project was a wonderful way to involve our staff in a project
that crossed all departments and celebrated them and their
families. I’m very pleased with the quality of our Video.
The little actors were warmly received by all of the staff
and were and are such enthusiastic ambassadors for cleaning
your hands”.
