TBRHSC Embarks on Collaboration and Engagement Process
March 3, 2011
Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC)
is embarking on the development of a new Strategic Plan.
It is a Plan that will address our healthcare needs
for years to come. Because of the immense success of
the Strategic Plan 2006 – 2010, expectations are
that the new initiatives will bring renewed satisfaction
to all of our healthcare stakeholders including our
Patients and Families.
Angele Brunelle is the
Chair of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences
Centre. “It is amazing”, she says, “to
see how people are already aligned with our thinking
and want to shape the future of healthcare with us.
We are working with our research leaders, our education
leaders, our government leaders, our business leaders,
and our leaders of diverse cultures to design and
implement a successful plan. It is possible to do
that and to bring change in the near term with impact
on the long term. Our collective will to achieve something
great together is stronger than ever. I am grateful
for this”.
Andrée Robichaud is the President and CEO
of TBRHSC. She says, “our growing reputation
as a centre of excellence is encouraging us to want
to achieve even greater things because a lot of
really gifted people have come together to ensure
great outcomes for people needing care. And, because
of everyone’s commitment, this is just the
beginning. Engagement gets people thinking about
and making decisions on the issues of great importance.
This is not just about consultation. Our process
now is focused on the educated decisions people
make regarding the future of healthcare in our region.”
It is anticipated that numerous new initiatives
will be introduced for consideration by the many stakeholders
who will participate in the Engagement process.
To that end, Dr. Gordon
Porter, Vice-President of Academic Affairs, says that
he is noticing a “distinct pattern of renewed
commitment from fellow physicians, researchers and
allied healthcare workers. Healthcare is complicated,
and in this time of resource constraint, people are
seeking ways to align resources to achieve lofty goals.
It is a time of collaboration and consensus-building.
People need to know that we are seeking ways to provide
the best healthcare possible.
The Strategic Plan process begins with Engagement. Stakeholders
are coming to the table over the next few weeks and months
to make sure they have a good understanding of the issues
facing TBRHSC. From the Engagement sessions will come consensus
leading to decisions and recommendations to be considered
by the Board of Directors of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences
Centre.
Patient advisor, Keith
Taylor, challenges people to “apply for a seat
at the table. It is the right thing to do. We are
asking people to join us on our journey to shape the
future of healthcare. We truly are ‘caring together’
when we go public like this. This is an elaborate
strategy that provides “voice” to everyone
who cares about healthcare in Northwestern Ontario.
It leads to a Strategic Plan that designs a course
of action that is measureable in every way. It is
a transparent process that holds the providers of
care accountable.”
