The Forensic Occupational Therapist role involves assessment
and treatment of clients (inpatient and outpatient) who have
involvement with both the Criminal Justice system and the
Mental Health system. The Occupational Therapist evaluates
an individual’s performance and ability to function
in the activities required for day to day living. Clients
are evaluated through standardized and informal assessments,
interviews and involvement in group activities. Treatment
is based on psycho-educational, cognitive, cognitive-behavioural
and task oriented approaches.
Qualifications:
- Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists
of Ontario
- 2 years recent experience working with patients within
a mental health setting (preference given to Forensic experience)
- Competent in assessment skills and group programming
- Sensitivity to the needs of patients with mental health
or emotional difficulties
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
including the ability to formulate and type reports in WORD
format
- Experience and ability to consult and collaborate
with members of the multidisciplinary team
- Tact and Diplomacy
- Maintaining a working knowledge of current or ”best”
practices for the delivery of care and service
