Registered Nurse - Operating Room - Full-time

Click to listen to this page using ReadPlease Reporting to the Manager Operating Room, you will be responsible for providing quality nursing care to patients including complex patient populations whose outcomes are not predictable. As part of a multidisciplinary health care team, you will practice within the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Philosophy and Values of Nursing Services and the policies of the Health Sciences Centre.

 

Applicants should have the following qualifications:


  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current certification in BCLS
  • Two years experience in Perioperative Nursing
  • Certification, or recent continuing education in Operating Room Nursing is preferred

 

In addition, applicants must have skill and experience in the following elements of nursing practice:


  • Physical Assessment
  • Intravenous Therapy and Intravenous Initiation
  • Central Venous Line Management
  • Aseptic Technique and Body Substance Precautions
  • Practicing as a partner on multidisciplinary teams
  • Patient and family teaching
  • Critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution

 

In addition to the above qualifications, preference will be given to applicants who:


  • Are competent in circulating and scrubbing for a variety of surgical procedures
  • Have experience in sterile technique and maintaining the sterile environment
  • Are knowledgeable in wound management and infection control
  • Have skill and experience in laser technique
  • Have skill and experience in hemodynamic monitoring;
  • Have certification in perioperative procedures;
  • Have skill and experience in pneumatic tourniquets; and
  • Have skill and experience in electrosurgical units.

 

On-call availability is a requirement for this position.
